Information about the recycled content of the steel used by Prolamsa to make tubing:

In order to produce the highest quality product possible, and, at the same time remain competitive, we purchase steel from several sources.  So, the recycled content of the steel we use in our tubing will vary, based on a number of factors:  the supplier of the steel, the process used to produce the steel, the price of scrap, as well as several other variables.

The steel we purchase may come from integrated steel mills, or mini-mills.

Mini-mills use Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs) to melt scrap steel into new steel.  The recycled content of their scrap is between 95-100%.

Steel made by integrated steel producers is primarily made using the Basic Oxygen Process (BOP).  This process uses a combination of scrap and iron ore to make steel.  The recycled content (scrap) in this process is usually around 30%.

The Steel Recycling Institute has done extensive research in this area.  Their website on this subject is www.recycle-steel.org
